WiCOR’s mission is to advance our understanding of the origins of life in the Universe through interdisciplinary research, education, and outreach in the complementary areas of Solar System Formation, Exoplanets and Habitability, Astrochemistry, Origins of Life on our Planet, and Astrobiology. To do this, six UW-Madison Departments, namely Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, Astronomy, Bacteriology, Botany, Chemistry, and Geoscience, came together to found WiCOR, and individual members from several other programs including Physics, Statistics, Mathematics, Chemical and Biological Engineering, and the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery have also joined. WiCOR offers a framework within which we can train students for transformative, far-reaching multidisciplinary research.
